Food is a global language and a driver for global economic prosperity. Food is also a catalyst for change and food players are often pioneers that are responsible for more than just the bottom line; their choices can have tremendous impacts on human health and world sustainability. So how do we face the urgent issues of creating a more sustainable future of food while understanding technology’s role in closing the gaps in our food system? The key is knowledge and education, the cornerstone of innovation.

The Future Food Institute is an Italian-based non-profit with global horizons that aims to build a more equitable world through enlightening a world-class breed of innovators, boosting entrepreneurial potential and improving agri-food expertise and tradition.
We are holders of a unique heritage and have a responsibility to preserve it, maintain it, improve it and spread it. innovation must be grounded and rooted into a local history. future food institute aims to bring innovation, while keeping strong basis on our unique food heritage.

To eat is a physical need and a great excuse to come together! who you eat with has always been important in the social lives of people all over the world. even what you eat has social implications. food and social interaction are deeply entwined in the human psyche, a fact which we tend to ignore in our daily lives. transformation is the key characteristic that makes food a highly challenging innovation field. ffi wants to be a guide through the food world, in every direction, from product to process innovation, analyzing all the related impacts on local economic growth and job creation.
A future of growth, both in good ways (more technology in the agricultural system, and attention towards health and diets) and in bad ways (exploitation of the soil, more health diseases connected to food consumption).
But also a future of collapse, considering how climate change is influencing crops’ growth or how many people in the world are still starving.

The FFI Fellowship is a multifaceted experience aimed to empower its fellows to reach their full potential and achieve their goals in making positive impact on the broader community.
Officucina Reggio is an exclusive kitchen hybrid maker space for food innovators that blends culinary tools with 3D printers, laser cutters, sensors, Arduino, and more, offering a unique and creative learning experience for students to develop their prototypes.
Food Lab Bologna hosts community events, kids labs, training and innovative prototyping and co-creation activities.
This state of the art kitchen maker space guests community events kids labs, training and innovative prototyping and co-creation activities that educate people of all ages about food in a practical, fun and engaging way, providing them with the hands on knowledge and skills that allow them to shape a healthy approach and appreciation for food.
The FFI Fellowship Program offers dynamic young visionary food innovators, thinkers and doers the chance to put their knowledge to action. In particular, our FFI Fellows are experts and advocates in Food Makers and Digital Fabrications, Food Policies and access to Food, AgTech, Food Education, Health, Food Production, Taste and Social Innovation. Our FFI Fellows embody the Future Food Institute’s mission and navigate through the Food Ecosystem by understanding the logic and the innovations of its sectors (production, manufacturing, distribution, shopping, eating) and, above all, aspire to be positive change makers in their communities and the world through the power of food.
